Kyrgyzstan Registers 3,570 Cases of Measles Outbreak

BISHKEK: In a concerning development, Kyrgyzstan has reported a staggering 3,570 measles cases since the start of 2024, revealed by the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis.

The outbreak has hit various regions across the country, with Bishkek topping the list with 1,023 cases, followed by 849 in Chui region, 723 in Jalal-Abad region, 552 in Osh region, and significant numbers in other areas including Osh, Batken, Issyk-Kul, and Naryn regions.

Health professionals have sounded the alarm, urging parents to prioritize the vaccination of their children against measles. The surge in cases has been attributed to a concerning trend of individuals refusing planned vaccination against measles and rubella, both among children and adults.

This alarming spike underscores the critical importance of vaccination in preventing the spread of infectious diseases.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to educate the public about the risks associated with refusing vaccination, emphasizing the role of immunization in safeguarding individual and public health.
