NEW YORK: Pop icon Lady Gaga’s father, Joe Germanotta, has admitted that political differences have strained his relationship with his daughter.
Speaking in an interview on Fox Business’ Cavuto: Coast to Coast, Germanotta reflected on how his conservative political views have led to tension within his family.
“[We’ll] get past it,” said Germanotta, who owns a restaurant in New York City, expressing hope that he and Lady Gaga could move beyond their political disagreements. His comments came shortly after Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.
Germanotta, a Republican who has endorsed Trump, acknowledged that his support for the former president has caused friction with his daughter, a vocal Democrat and advocate for progressive causes.
Despite this, he said that his conservative values do not equate to a lack of support for the LGBTQ community or for drag as an art form.
“People need to understand that even though I’m a Republican and I have Republican conservative attitudes, that doesn’t mean I don’t support the LGBTQ community or drag as a form of artistry,” he said during the interview.

Lady Gaga, who has openly campaigned for Democratic leaders in the past, recently performed at a campaign event for Vice President Kamala Harris. During her performance, she delivered a speech on gender equality, emphasizing the role women have played in holding families together and shaping the nation’s future.
“For more of this country’s life, women didn’t have a voice,” she said. “Yet we raised children, we held our families together, we supported men as they made the decisions. But tomorrow, women will be part of making this decision.”
