ISLAMABAD/LOS ANGELES: Los Angeles County will pay the late NBA player Kobe Bryant’s wife about $29 million to end a legal dispute over claims that firemen and sheriff’s deputies shared graphic images of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Kobe and his 13-year-old daughter.

According to Luis Li, counsel for Vanessa Bryant, Kobe Bryant’s wife, “Today marks the effective culmination of Mrs Bryant’s valiant effort to hold accountable those who engaged in this abhorrent conduct.”

She battled for her husband, her daughter, and everyone else in the neighbourhood whos departed loved ones had also been treated with contempt. Li said that the $28.85 million settlement had been reached.

This includes the $15 million that Vanessa Bryant was granted in the lawsuit in August by a jury in a federal court after concluding that firefighters and deputies had breached her privacy and caused her emotional anguish.

After charging the Los Angeles County sheriffs and fire departments with disseminating photographs of the incident in unauthorized settings, including with customers in a bar, she filed a lawsuit against the county, citing invasion of privacy.

Death of basketball star

On January 26, 2020, an accident in Calabasas, California, claimed the lives of basketball star Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others. Bryant passed away at age 41. The legendary 18-time All-Star and Los Angeles Lakers player won five NBA titles and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020.

The Los Angeles Times quoted Mira Hashmall, an attorney who was the county’s representative in the dispute, as saying that the settlement was “reasonable and fair.”
