Leaders of GCC, Central Asia Vow to Enhance Ties: Joint Statement

JEDDAH: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Central Asia Summit have affirmed the significance of strengthening political and strategic ties between the GCC nations and Central Asia, emphasizing the importance of talks and partnerships towards new prospects in different fields, the joint statement said.

The summit was chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah on Wednesday.

The leaders of GCC and Central Asia agreed to continue political coordination to achieve regional and global security and stability, the statement said.  They also vowed to work to ensure the flexibility of supply chains, food security, transportation and communication, energy security, and water security, it maintained.  The joint statement added, “The summit emphasized building cooperation relations in developing renewable and green energy sources and technologies, generating business opportunities, increasing trade exchange, and supporting investment opportunities.”

The participants of the summit affirmed their complete support for the candidacy of Saudi Arabia to host Expo 2030 in Riyadh. “The leaders lauded the cultural diversity, openness, and rich history of the nations of the Cooperation Council (GCC) and Central Asian countries, and stressed that tolerance and peaceful coexistence are among the most significant values and principles for ties between countries and societies.”

The joint statement added, “The leaders expressed concern regarding the growing rhetoric of racism and Islamophobia, and acts of violence against Islamic symbols and Muslim minorities.

The leaders of GCC and Central Asia stressed the significance of continuing efforts to enhance further trade and economic cooperation and also encourage joint investment by strengthening ties between financial institutions and business sectors on both sides in order to explore venues of cooperation and provide an attractive atmosphere for business, joint investments, trade, and economic cooperation to achieve mutual benefit, the statement added.

They welcomed the decision of Saudi Arabia to host the ‘GCC-Central Asia Investment Forum in the last quarter of 2023.  They condemned and rejected terrorism in all its shapes and manifestations.

The leaders stressed the significance of strengthening cooperation between the OIC and its bodies. They noted that many people across the Islamic world are confronting with food insecurity due to the challenging geopolitical, geo-economic situation and climate change.

The leaders also congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the success of this year’s Hajj season.

The leaders of GCC and Central Asia thanked Saudi Arabia for hosting the summit, saying that they were looking forward to organizing the next summit between the two sides in Samarkand, Uzbekistan by 2025.
