Lebanese Military Says Journalist Killed by Israeli Firing in Southern Lebanon

BEIRUT: The Lebanese military said a journalist was killed by Israeli shooting on Thursday in a southern Lebanon border region. Israel’s army claimed earlier that its troops had targeted Hezbollah and struck three persons. However, Hezbollah said it fired several rockets at an Israeli position in Manara village and that Israel replied with gunfire. An official for the United Nations peacekeeping troops in the region, UNIFIL, stated a civilian was killed in the exchange of firing.

“The Lebanese Army requested UNIFIL’s help for seven people stranded near the Blue Line during an exchange of fire across the Blue Line,” UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti stated. He said one person lost his life while the others were successfully rescued,” the spokesperson confirmed.

The Lebanese military officials described the seven persons as journalist, adding Israeli forces targeted them with machine guns, killing one journalist and wounding another. However, It did not provide more information about their identities.

Earlier, The Palestinian journalists’ union said that 16 Palestinian journalists have been killed in the war in Gaza since Israel began bombing the coastal enclave. The union said that dozens of other journalists were injured in the conflict in Gaza.

The recent development comes as the health ministry in the Gaza Strip said that more than 500 innocent Palestinian civilians, including women and children, were martyred in a brutal Israeli airstrike on al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City.
