BEIRUT, Lebanon: The Lebanese Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that Lebanon plans to complain to the UN Security Council against Israel for interfering with civil aviation and navigation systems around Beirut airport.

Since the Gaza conflict began in October, Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah movement, a Hamas ally, has been engaged in near-daily border clashes with Israeli forces.

Lebanon will submit an urgent complaint to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) about Israel disrupting navigation systems and civil aviation safety in the air around Beirut airport since the Gaza war started in October, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The statement condemned Israel’s deliberate policy of deliberately disrupting devices receiving and transmitting signals and jamming air and ground navigation systems.

Beirut, however, did not provide further details of the disruption.

On January 7, Beirut airport’s departure and arrival screen was cyberattacked, with media outlets displaying anti-Hezbollah messages instead.

The person behind the airport hack is still unknown with Public Works and Transportation Minister Ali Hamieh admitting that Lebanon lacks cyber security expertise.

At least 323 people, mostly Hezbollah fighters, as well as 56 civilians have been killed in Lebanon since the war between Israel and Hamas began in October.
