Legal Process Under Army Laws Commences Against Perpetrators of May 9 Rioters: COAS

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, said on Saturday that the legal process of trial against the planners, instigators, abettors, and perpetrators involved in the May 9 tragedy has begun under the Pakistan Army Act and Official Secret Act, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military media wing, stated in a press release.

During his visit to Lahore, COAS General Syed Asim Munir laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument and paid tribute to the brave individuals who sacrificed their precious lives for the nation, ISPR stated in a press release.

The Army Chief received a detailed briefing on the events of May 9, also known as Black Day. The COAS visited Jinnah House and an Army installation that were targeted and vandalized by politically motivated rioters.

Addressing the Garrison officers and soldiers at the Corps Headquarters, General Syed Asim Munir stated that the legal proceedings against the planners, instigators, abettors, and perpetrators involved in the May 9 tragedy have commenced in accordance with the Pakistan Army Act and Official Secret Act, following the established legal procedures derived from the Constitution of Pakistan.

COAS emphasizes that strength of Army lies in people

The COAS emphasized that the strength of the Army lies in the people, and any attempt to create division between the Army and the people of Pakistan is an act against the State, which is neither tolerable nor condonable under any circumstances, the press release added.

The COAS added, “Hostile and inimical forces, along with their abettors, have been attempting to create confusion through fake news and propaganda, but with the support of the nation, we will defeat all such enemy designs, InshAllah.”

Later, General Syed Asim Munir visited Services Hospital Lahore to inquire about the well-being of DIG Ali Nasir Rizvi, who was injured by political miscreants during the May 9 incident. He also visited Qurban Lines and met with police officials, paying homage to the Shuhada (martyrs) of the Police force.

The COAS appreciated the professionalism and restraint displayed by the police during the riots and vandalism, assuring them of the Army’s full support in terms of capacity enhancement, intelligence sharing, and training.

Earlier, upon his arrival, COAS General Syed Asim Munir was received by the Commander Lahore Corps.
