ISLAMABAD/LONDON: Most influential British guitarist Jeff Beck, who rose to fame as a part of the Yardbirds where he replaced Eric Clapton before forming the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart, has died at 78.
Jeff Beck’s tone, presence and volume redefined guitar music in the 1960s and influenced heavy metal, jazz-rock and even punk movements.

Jeff’s death was confirmed on his official Twitter handle.
“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound grief that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing,” the statement said.
“After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he passed away yesterday (Wednesday). His family asks for privacy while they process the tremendous loss.”
When inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the second time in 2009, Beck said that “I played the way I do because it allowed me to come up with the sickest sounds possible.”
“That’s a point now, isn’t it? I don’t care about the rules.
“If I don’t break the rules at the previous ten times in every song, then I’m not doing my job properly.”
Responding to death news, singer Sir Rod Stewart called Beck “the greatest”.
He wrote on Instagram that “Jeff Beck was on another planet. He took Ronnie Wood and me to the USA in the late 60s in his band, the Jeff Beck Group, and we haven’t looked back since.
“Beck was one of the few guitarists who would listen to me sing and respond when playing live. Beck, you were the greatest, my nice man. Thank you for everything.
United States rock band Hollywood Vampires, comprising Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, and Tommy Henriksen also saluted “the passing of our dear friend and the guitar legend”.
