LHC Restores Parvez Elahi as CM Punjab

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday suspended Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman’s orders to de-notify Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as the chief minister of Punjab and restored him as the chief executive of the province. The court also restored Punjab’s provincial cabinet.

Parvez Elahi assured the court that he would not dissolve the Punjab provincial assembly.
A larger bench of LHC, headed by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh and comprised Justices Muzamil Akhtar Shabir, Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, Tariq Saleem Sheikh, and Asim Hafeez, issued the ruling on a petition filed by Parvez Elahi against his denotification as Punjab’s chief minister by Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman.
The court has also restored the Punjab provincial cabinet of Parvez Elahi, which was also dissolved in line with the Governor’s order.

The lawyer representing Parvez Elahi in the case assured the court bench that his client will not dissolve Punjab Assembly if the court repeals the notification of the Punjab Governor resulting in his dismissal from office after he refused to take the vote of confidence from the assembly on his order.

Barrister Ali Zafar submitted the affidavit on Elahi’s behalf.

The governor’s lawyer that they were ready to withdraw the notification but asked the court to bind Elahi to take the vote of confidence.

The court inquired if Elahi was ready to take the vote of confidence within three days.
