ISLAMABAD: LIMS – the Land Information and Management System is an unprecedented project initiated by the government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army jointly to promote modern agriculture as it may usher into a revolution in the agriculture sector.
This is the first comprehensive government initiative for the development of agriculture in the history of Pakistan. The main objective of LIMS is to meet the cut import of agriculture crops, increase exports, and ensure food security for the increasing population of the country.
LIMS will help inform farmers about climate change and real-time satellite monitoring of crops, water, spray, etc. The establishment of LIMS will give farmers direct access to markets. Under Land Information Management System, increasing agricultural production will be possible using modern technology on uncultivated and low-productivity lands.
Under one roof, this revolutionary institute will work on land, crops, weather, water resources, and pest control. Proper use of various resources, reserves, modern technology, and irrigation system will bring such development in the agriculture sector, which will meet the food shortage in every region of the country. Based on information and analytics, it will be easier to identify difficulties, obstacles, and challenges, find appropriate solutions, and make decisions.
Among its objectives is to rehabilitate waste and uncultivated land. Many projects are being partnered with Saudi Arabia, China, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain, which will increase Pakistan’s exports. New canals will also be built to channelize flood water. Modern irrigation techniques like modular drip, sprinkler, and pivot irrigation will be implemented under the system.
