Literary Icon Mushtaq Yousufi Remembered

ISLAMABAD: The renowned Urdu literary icon and humorist Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi’s birth anniversary was commemorated on Monday.

Born on September 4, 1923, in Jaipur, India, Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi migrated to Pakistan following independence. While his professional background was in banking, he held prominent positions in various banks.

Every reader of hilarious Urdu literature is familiar with Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi due to his writings, which include essays, humor, and satire. His works provide insights into social, political, and cultural dimensions, beautifully intertwined with nostalgic reminiscences of the past.

Mushtaq Yousafi’s Literary Work

Mushtaq Yousufi authored five books, including “Chiragh Talay,” “Khakam-Badahan,” “Zarguzasht,” “Aab-i-Gum,” and “Sham-e-Sheri-Yaran.”

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to literature, the government of Pakistan awarded him the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 1999 and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2002. Following a prolonged illness, Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi passed away on June 20, 2018.
