The act was hailed as an act of heroism. Robert Livernois, the superintendent of Warren Consolidated Schools, called it “an extraordinary act of maturity and courage on his part.”

A camera placed just above the driver captured the incident. The driver can be seen in the video fanning herself with her baseball cap and calling the transportation office to tell them she must stop. After a brief delay, Dillon sprang into action, stepping on the brakes and gripping the wheel.

Livernois remarked, “I don’t know that it could have gone any better,” pointing out that adults had assisted children in leaving through the back door.

“It was truly a good day for us when you have an anchor like Dillon taking care of everything on the bus.” His parents, Steve and Ireta Reeves, were happy, but Dillon refused to meet with the reporters on Thursday. “We’ve got a little hero,” Dillon’s father stated. “Since he was approximately four years old, he’s been on my lap driving country roads and pulling into driveways. He is a skilled driver.”
