Livestock Department Recovers 120kg Unhealthy Meat from Illegal Slaughterhouses

MULTAN: The livestock department burnt 120 kilograms of unhealthy meat during a crackdown on indoor slaughterhouses in Multan on Thursday.

The home-based slaughterhouses were reported to have supplied unhealthy meat of weak and defective animals to different restaurants, particularly to biryani shops across the district.

The Livestock Department took the action against following repeated complaints of unhealthy meat being provided across the city.

A large number of butchers had set up mini slaughterhouses in their homes, according to an official of the Livestock Department.

A team led by Dr. Abid Aziz carried out the raid at different targeted points. Initially, a butcher named Shahid Sheikh, son of Idris Sheikh, was arrested from Rawalwala. He was also handed over a fine of Rs. 20,000.

Speaking at the ocassion, Dr. Aziz said that those who feed harmful meat to public do not deserve any leniency. He said operations against such miscreants would continue on regular basis.
