ISLAMABAD: In a bid to prevent to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) expected long march, the federal government on Thursday filed a contempt of court petition against its chairman Imran Khan in the Supreme Court.

The Interior Ministry on behalf of the federal government filed the petition. It told the highest court that the PTI chairman was planning a long march towards Islamabad which is a violation of a court order, a local TV reported.

The pertinent court order is of the Faizabad sit-in that took place in 2017.

It urged the apex court to direct the former premier to follow the court orders related to protests and sit-ins.

It is to be noted that Imran Khan had announced a long march towards Islamabad last month in a convention in the capital. Since his announcement, the federal government is busy in arrangements to deal with his looming long march, putting a number of containers on roadside in several areas.
