Luna-25 Spacecraft Suffers Technical Problem: Russian Space Agency

TALLINN: Russian space agency Roskosmos has said that an “inconsistent situation” occurred at the Luna-25 rocket as it was preparing to shift to its pre-landing orbit, Reuters reported on Saturday.

The spacecraft is scheduled to arrive in the south pole of the moon on Monday. In a statement, the Russian national space agency said that an abnormal situation emerged on board the automatic station during the operation. It added that the situation did not permit the manoeuvre to be performed with the quantified parameters.

The Russian space agency, quoted by Reuters as saying that the specialists are analyzing the abnormal situation. However, Roskosmos did not provide further details in this regard.

Earlier, the space agency said it has received the initial results from the Luna-25 and that they are being analyzed. It said the data it had received so far provided details regarding the chemical elements in the lunar and would facilitate the operation of devices designed to explore the surface of the moon.

The Luna-25 mission entered the moon’s orbit on Wednesday, the first Russian rocket to do so since 1976.
