PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron has said that Israel must halt bombing Gaza and killing civilian population. He expressed these remarks during an interview with BBC on Friday.

The French President said there was “no justification” for the shelling and adding a truce would benefit Israel. Emmanuel Macron said that they urged Israel to halt bombing in Gaza.

Responding to a question, he hoped that the US and the UK leaders would also join his call for ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Macron’s interview published a day following a humanitarian conference on the Gaza Strip was held in Paris.

President Macron stated the “clear conclusion” of all countries and agencies present at that summit on Gaza was “that there is no other solution of the crisis than first a humanitarian pause, going to a truce, which will permit to protect… civilian population.”

“Today, civilians are bombed in Gaza. These ladies, these babies, these aged people are bombed and killed. So, there is no cause for that and no legality. So we do ask Israel to stop,” he further said.

Gaza’s health ministry said that Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 11,000 Palestinian people, including more than 4,500 children in Gaza.

Earlier, the International Committee of the Red Cross has called for health workers and medical facilities in war-torn Gaza to be protected, adding the Gaza health system had “reached a point of no return.”

The Red Cross said that its health teams in recent days had provided critical supplies to medical structures in the Gaza Strip, and had seen “terrible images that have now gotten worse because of sharpened hostilities.” The Red Cross stated that this was cruelly affecting health facilities and ambulances and medical staff. “Overstressed, running on thin supplies and insecure, the health care system in the Gaza has reached a point of no return.”
