BRUSSELS, Belgium: French President Emmanuel Macron, in a visibly frustrated tone on Thursday, denied making controversial remarks during a recent cabinet meeting about Israel’s creation, after media reports suggested otherwise.

Speaking at a press conference following a European Council meeting in Brussels, Macron expressed shock at the widespread reaction to comments that he claims were inaccurately reported. He criticized both journalists and some of his ministers for spreading false information, highlighting what he described as a lack of professionalism.

Macron strongly reaffirmed France’s unwavering support for Israel, stating that the country’s existence and security are “intangible” for France. He warned that the manipulation of such reports could damage France’s standing and hurt people.

This controversy comes at a politically challenging time for Macron, who recently dissolved parliament after electoral defeats, leaving him grappling with a divided legislature and diminished influence over his government. The misreported remarks also prompted a sharp response from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, adding to the diplomatic tensions between the two leaders.
