MANILA: An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale struck in the Pacific Ocean early Tuesday near the coast of the Philippines, the US Geological Survey said.
According to the US Tsunami Warning System the quake did not trigger a tsunami alert and there were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.
The USGS said it occurred at a depth of 70 kilometers about 100 kilometers from Sarangani on the southern island of Mindanao.

Earthquakes are a quite common in Philippines, which is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, an arc of intense seismic and volcanic activity that starts from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.
Last month a 7.6 magnitude quake shook Mindanao, triggering a tsunami warning. At least three people died in the earthquake.
