ISLAMABAD: The US National Weather Service on Wednesday said that another major cyclone is set to hit the state of California. As much as 18 centimeters of rain is expected to fall. The cycle comes on the heels of a barrage of storms that have killed at least 17 people and placed hundreds of thousands under evacuation orders.
Extremely heavy downpours on Tuesday caused flash floods leading to the closure of important highways, swept away commuters, and toppled trees. A 1five-year-old boy remains missing in central California.
According to the tracking site poweroutage.us, as many as 66,000 businesses and homes in America’s most populous state were without power in the early hours of Wednesday.
Mountains forecast to receive snowfall during major cyclone
The new storm will hit California’s northern parts and the Sierra Nevada mountains are forecast to receive several feet of snow. The current weather system is the most powerful one since 2005 and the NWS has termed them as a series of unrelenting river events.
