Majority of Pakistanis Use Wood to Cook Food: PBS

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bureau of Statics has disclosed that more than half of the country’s population relies on wood for cooking. According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), 52.72 percent of the population is compelled to use wood as their primary cooking fuel.

The report also highlights that more than 1.4 million households burn dung as fuel, while 45,000 households use kerosene for the purpose of cooking. Additionally, the data indicates that 42.03 percent people across the country have access to gas for cooking, whereas 392,000 households’ resort to alternative sources for preparing their meals.

Furthermore, in terms of drinking water, the report revealed that only 6.38 percent of the population can access to water filtration plants, and a mere 1.47 percent chooses bottled water. Furthermore, the data shows that 46.07 percent of the population uses motor pumps for drinking water, while 4.13 percent rely on well water.
