LONDON:  Pakistani girls’ education activist and the youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai, has once again called for an “immediate” ceasefire in Gaza after the recent Israeli attack on a United Nations school housing displaced Palestinians.

Yousafzai in her post on X, formerly known as Twitter, urged Israel to halt its military operations after another UN school was bombed by Israeli forces, resulting in the deaths of dozens, including children.

“I’m horrified that Israel has bombed yet another school in Gaza, where thousands of civilians were sheltering. Schools should never be targets. I reiterate my call for an immediate ceasefire — we cannot have any more innocent lives lost,” she wrote on X.

The UN-run school, situated in central Gaza’s Nuseirat camp, witnessed the death of at least 40 people, primarily women and children, reported Al Jazeera.

Yousafzai underscored the dire situation in the Gaza Strip, particularly following Israel’s devastating assault in Rafah. She described the events as heartbreaking and terrifying, expressing disbelief at witnessing such atrocities firsthand.

The Nobel laureate empathized with the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, acknowledging the unimaginable pain and hardship they endure.

Furthermore, Yousafzai announced a new scholarship initiative for Palestinian students at the University of Oxford, alongside reaffirming the Malala Fund’s ongoing support for Palestine.

The organization has already allocated $300,000 for Palestinian-led aid initiatives and humanitarian endeavors.

It is pertinent to mention here that at least 37,181 Palestinians were killed, and 88,309 others wounded in the Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since October 7 last year, said the Palestinian health ministry.
