KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is considering an extension in the stay of the two giant pandas at Zoo Negara, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday.
Malaysian Prime Minister said that the pandas’ presence of Xing Xing and Liang Liang had become a significant attraction that captures the interest of many citizens.
He pointed out that not everyone in Malaysia can afford to travel to China to witness giant pandas, making the opportunity to see them at Zoo Negara a rare and cherished experience for some.
The well-known giant panda pair, Xing Xing and Liang Liang, were initially loaned to the Malaysian government in 2014 for a period of 10 years, commemorating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
Over the years, the pair has become even more popular due to the birth of three cubs—Nuan Nuan, Yi Yi, and Sheng Yi—all of whom have since returned to China.
