ISLAMABAD: The High Commission of Malaysia in Pakistan observed the 67th National Day of Malaysia in the country’s capital Islamabad on Tuesday. Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Addressing the event, Jam Kamal underscored the deepening bonds between the two nations and highlighted Malaysia’s remarkable journey of progress and cooperation.
In his speech, Kamal conveyed the warmest greetings and heartfelt congratulations from the people and government of Pakistan to Malaysia. He lauded the nation’s journey from independence to becoming a beacon of economic success and cultural harmony in Southeast Asia. Kamal praised Malaysia for its extraordinary achievements in embracing diversity, which has propelled its national development.
“Malaysia’s journey since independence has been nothing short of extraordinary,” he remarked. He highlighted the nation’s success in economic growth, cultural integration, and international diplomacy. Kamal said that Malaysia’s advancements in education, technology, and infrastructure, along with its dedication to environmental sustainability and social justice, serve as testaments to its visionary leadership.
The Commerce Minister also emphasized the strong and enduring friendship between Pakistan and Malaysia. “Our two nations share a rich history of cooperation, mutual respect, and trust,” Kamal stated. He reflected on their joint efforts on international platforms, working towards common goals like peace and sustainable development.
The Commerce Minister underscored the significant potential in expanding trade, commerce, and investment between the countries. He expressed optimism about the steady growth in economic ties and the potential that remains untapped. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing collaboration in key sectors such as information technology, agriculture, manufacturing, and halal products.
Jam Kamal highlighted the opportunity for increased Malaysian investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure, energy, and tourism sectors. He emphasized the fertile ground provided by recent economic reforms in both nations, which create opportunities for businesses to innovate and grow.
The Commerce Minister also pointed to the potential for bilateral cooperation on regional and global platforms such as ASEAN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). By aligning efforts on issues like digital transformation, sustainable development, and climate change, Kamal suggested that both nations could contribute to global solutions benefiting the world at large.
As the celebration unfolded, Kamal reinforced the importance of steadfast commitment to peace and prosperity. “Pakistan and Malaysia have always believed in the power of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding,” he said. He expressed confidence that the friendship between the two nations would continue to grow stronger, benefiting both countries and setting an example of positive international relationships.
The High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan Mohammad Azhar Mazlan reiterated that the 67-year independence journey of Malaysia was for a transformative and modern independent state, which is interpreted as a struggle for a strong federation. In a message on the occasion of the 67th National Day, the envoy said
“On this occasion of Malaysia’s National Day, Malaysians at home and abroad come together in order to celebrate our independence anniversary”.
He said that it is not merely a celebration but more importantly a reflection of the resolve on the journey of nationhood that brought Malaysia the strength, it enjoys today.
“Every year, on the 31st of August, the people of Malaysia from all walks of life regardless of religion, race, or political belief unite to celebrate the National Day, marking the moment when our beloved country gained independence on this very day in 1957”, the Ambassador said.
