ISLAMABAD: Preliminary results of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Patry (MDP)’s presidential primary election showed that Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had become eligible to run after registering a win.

According to local media reports, out of the 87 parliamentary seats MDP was on the course of winning more than two-thirds of the seat.

Ex-president Nasheed rejects Solih win in primary

Solih’s challenger Mohamed Nasheed, an ex-president and the current speaker of the parliament, has already rejected the results and has termed them “flawed”.

Nasheed’s party has called the results questions, pointing out that tallies of votes at certain ballot stations were not the same as the number of eligible voters.
