Only Manchester United, in 1998-99, have before achieved that achievement and it is their derby rivals whom Manchester City will meet at Wembley on 3rd June, before confronting Inter Milan a week later in Istanbul, where they will hunt a 1st Champions League victory. Manchester City will lift the title after they play Chelsea on Sunday.

Captain Ilkay Gundogan  said: “The Premier League is the most demanding and competitive league across the world, so that tells you everything regarding what a success this is.

“To have won this title 3 times in a row and 5 times in six years is unbelievable. That quality and uniformity helps sum up what City stand for and ensures it (City) will continue to strive for the achievement going forward”.

Manchester City, champions for a 9th time in its history, had trailed Arsenal by 8 points on 7 April, although the team had played one match fewer than Mikel Arteta’s leaders at that point.
