IMPHAL, India: Manipur police have arrested 30 individuals after a mob set on fire the vehicle of an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer on duty in the Kwakeithel area in Imphal West, according to media reports.

In another incident, at least 19 women were injured during a clash with the Rapid Action Force (RAF) in the same district.

The reports said a mob set ablaze the vehicle of Inspector General of Police (Zone II) K. Kabib when he, accompanied by his escort team, was travelling towards Imphal on Tiddim Road.

A police official said one police personnel was injured by a stray bullet that was discharged from inside the burning vehicle, hitting his leg.

In response, the security forces used tear gas shells to disperse the mob and later arrested 30 attackers. However, the reports said, the senior police officer remained unhurt.

In the other incident, the women and the RAF personnel engaged in a clash after the women participated in a sit-in demanding the restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
