Manipur Violence: Civilian Injured in Shootout, Body Found

BISHNUPUR: A civilian wounded during a gunbattle between Kuki miscreants and security forces in Phoubakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai region in Bishnupur district and the adjacent hill, in Manipur state.

A heavy exchange of gunfire between BSF A-09, CDO-BPR, and IRB deployed there with Kuki miscreants was reported on Sunday and Monday. During the fight, a civilian was shot in the left thigh. He has been identified as Md Abdul Kadir, a 30-year-old son of the late Md Abdul Wahid of Kwakta Ward No. 5 under PS Phoubakchao Ikhai in the Bishnupur district.

Dead body in Manipur

Meanwhile, a man’s decomposed body was discovered in a forested area north of MS Highway Nursery Plantation, close to Khongjom Market in the Thoubal District. According to police, the unidentified body was found on Monday at around 6.30 am. The man appeared to be in his mid-55s.

If no one claims the body after three days, the body will be disposed of following the law, according to Khongjom Police Station OC K Santosh. At the JNIMS mortuary, the body has been kept.
