Mansoor Usman Awan Becomes New Attorney General of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi approved the appointment of Supreme Court lawyer Mansoor Usman Awan as Attorney General of Pakistan on Friday.

The president also accepted Ashtar Ausaf’s resignation, who served as Attorney General for Pakistan for less than a year. He had tendered his resignation on health grounds but was asked by the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to continue until the appointment of his successor.

Ausaf also served on the same position from 2016 to 2018. Now, President Dr. Alvi gave the approval of the appointment of a new Attorney General under Article 100 of the Constitution.

New Attorney General’s cordial relationship with law minister

Usman Awan is a Lahore-based lawyer and he acted as the counsel of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in different matters, including the presidential reference on the interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Constitution and the implementation of Article 95.

It is said that he has a cordial relationship with Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
