DHAKA: More than 2,000 people gathered at a rally in Bangladesh on Friday to express solidarity with Palestine in response to the ongoing Israel’s ground and air offensive in Gaza since October 27 that left more than 21,507 people, mostly children and women, martyred.
Organized by the newly formed Palestine Solidarity Committee, Bangladesh, comprised of educators, writers, and activists from Dhaka University, the rally was held at Shabang Circle, a Dhaka neighborhood hosting prominent educational institutions.
Prof. Serajul Islam Choudhury, a leading Bangladeshi public intellectual and literary critic, likened the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza to the Holocaust, stating that the Palestinians are experiencing a similar tragedy. Banners with messages such as “Free Palestine” and “Stop Genocide” were displayed by protesters.
Prof. Anu Muhammad, an economist and committee member, highlighted the daily genocide in Gaza, condemning the actions that defy UN and international law. He emphasized the need for global protests against such indiscriminate actions, calling it a danger to world civilization.
The rally aimed to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and underscore the significance of public opinion and unity against such atrocities.
Mohammad Salman, a schoolteacher, urged global unity against the Israeli military’s attacks on Gaza, condemning the killing of innocent people and expressing frustration with the use of veto power by certain superpowers in preventing UN resolutions on Israeli atrocities.
