ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday demanded fresh elections in the country without anyone’s interference.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad after the party’s Central Majlis Shura meeting, Maulana Fazl rejected the results of the February 8 election, declaring them unacceptable.

He emphasized the sanctity of the electoral process in the country. He stressed to restore the right to vote to the people.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the Majlis Shura had discussed the political affiliations of different parties with JUI-F, recognizing it as part of a broader political process.

He also extended an olive branch to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that JUI-F would welcome talks, though he noted PTI’s lack of unity and failure to announce a negotiation team.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, criticizing the government, lamented its rigidity in addressing concerns of the JUI-F. He said that the government is not flexible enough to resolve the JUI-F’s grievances adding that the Central Majlis Shura had decided to independently continue its struggle.

He said the Pakistani nation was grappling with increased anxiety and a surge in terrorism. Maulana Fazlur Rehman slammed the government’s rhetoric regarding potential actions inside Afghanistan.

He stressed that the Constitution defines the roles of all institutions in matters of national defence. He said the entire nation stands united with the army.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed strong opposition to the recent resolution by the American House of Representatives.  “America should stay away from Pakistan’s internal affairs,” he stated. He also expressed concern over the situation in Gaza.

He reiterated full support of JUI for Pakistan-China ties but acknowledged the need to rebuild China’s confidence in investing in Pakistan.
