ISLAMABAD: London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan has hoped for an exhilarating final showdown between the host nation, Pakistan and England.

His remarks come as cricket enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.  Khan also expressed his desire to watch a face-off between Pakistan and England in the mega event, set to unfold from February 19 to March 9, signalling Pakistan’s long-awaited revival as a host of major international cricket after nearly thirty years.

“I abide by a simple mantra: I always root for the victor, ensuring I never come away empty-handed. I’m optimistic this Champions Trophy will be a remarkable event,” he said.

The tournament will commence with an opening match in Karachi, where Pakistan will take on New Zealand, following a brief ceremony at the National Bank Cricket Stadium.

However, the most eagerly awaited encounter looms large—the fierce rivalry between Pakistan and India, scheduled for February 23 in Dubai, promises to be a thrilling spectacle.

Pakistani superstar Babar Azam

The 54-year-old Labour Party leader expressed hope that Pakistani superstar Babar Azam would find his rhythm and deliver stellar performances.

“England faced a tough defeat in India. I sincerely hope Babar Azam returns to his best. Australia remains a formidable opponent, and South Africa boast a solid team as well.

“I’m looking forward to a fantastic tournament; one that is welcoming to the crowds returning to the stadiums.”

He expressed hope that the forthcoming ICC tournament would be a triumphant one.

“I’m optimistic this ICC event will be a success. If the home team perform well, it’ll elevate the tournament’s stature—perhaps even leading to a Pakistan-England final,” Khan remarked.
