ISLAMABAD: Fast food giant McDonald’s is temporarily closing its US offices this week as it looks to notify corporate employees about a fresh round of layoffs as part of a broader restructuring plan, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

Last week, the company sent an internal email to US employees and some international staff, asking them to work remotely from Monday through Wednesday so it can inform them about the decisions virtually, the report said. It is unclear how many workers will be laid off.

“During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organization,” Mcdonald’s said in the message viewed by the Journal.

The fast-food chain also asked employees to cancel all in-person meetings with vendors and other outside parties scheduled this week, the report added.

Move part of new business strategy

The Chicago-based company said in January that it would be reviewing corporate staffing levels as part of an updated business strategy, which could result in job cuts in some areas and expansion in others.

McDonald’s is expected to announce the lay offs by Wednesday.

Job cuts are on the rise through out the world as companies try to tackle a global economic slowdown and soaring inflation. Multiple tech giants, including Google, Amazon, and Facebook, have drastically scaled down their operations recently.
