Medical and Pharmaceutical Companies Moving Towards Herbs

ISLAMABAD:   After the end of Covid 19 global pandemic, the major pharmaceutical companies and medical corporations have shown significant interest and attracted huge investments in the traditional healing field and herbal medicine field, said the Indonesian Ambassador.

Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan Adam M. Tugio, said, that there has been a swift increase in the usage and confidence in traditional methods of medical treatment and herbal medicines before and after the coronavirus pandemic COVID-19.

In an international seminar jointly organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)’s Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) and the Indonesian Embassy in Pakistan, on the usage of herbal and traditional medicine, Ambassador Tugio added that Pakistan and Indonesia are rich in the blessing of herbs, and natural medications sources which can be significantly utilized by building large platforms and knowledge hubs.

Coordinator General of COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, said that the shift and inclination towards herbal medicine and traditional medical knowledge is increasing day by day, and there requires an immediate need for research and scientific development in order to utilize and take benefit from this natural medical field.

OIC countries rich in herbal medication

Dr Iqbal said that most of the OIC member states have been historical capitals of such traditional medicine knowledge for centuries. The standardized control of herbal medicines, effectiveness, and relevant regulatory enforcement are very necessary for the systematic usage of herbal and traditional medicines and knowledge development, Coordinator General Iqbal added.

Ambassador Tugio said, that in India, ayurvedic (ancient Indian healing system) herbal medicines are very popular and similarly in OIC countries, the traditional meditational herbal healing medicines are very popular.

Green-label herbal products

Tugio said, during the seminar that herbs are also considered a significant source of healing and precautionary medicines, therefore, consumers and patients are also seeking green-label herbal products.

The Indonesian ambassador said that Pakistan, Unani (traditional Greek medications), and traditional medicines are considered reliable and efficient sources of healing and treatment.

Usage of traditional Greco-Arab and Islamic medicine was a major common medical treatment among the Muslim countries during the Golden Age of Arab-Islamic civilization from the seventh to the fifteenth century.

Ambassador Tugio said, that in India, ayurvedic (ancient Indian healing system) herbal medicines are very popular and similarly in OIC countries, the traditional meditational herbal healing medicines are very popular.

Old-age healing prescriptions

The ancient traditional knowledge and old-age healing prescriptions create a significant share in medication and remediations to cure and heal humanity from diseases and disorders

In the seminar, the Professors and medical experts from Iran, Indonesia, and the University of Karachi’s International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences briefed the participants on the sustainable and efficient usage of herbal medicines and traditional healing knowledge.

More than 400 students, researchers, doctors, and pharmaceutical experts of the medical industry belonging from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Gabon, Sudan, Nigeria, Morocco, Iran, Uganda, Pakistan, and Malaysia have attended this herbal and traditional medical seminar.
