Mehwish Hayat Explains Why She Refused to work in Bollywood

KARACHI: Renowned Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat has recently disclosed that she turned down multiple offers to work in Bollywood. During an interview, Mehwish Hayat elaborated on her decision to abstain from Bollywood projects, stating, “I received many offers [from Bollywood], but I declined all of them.” The star of “London Nahi Jaunga” attributed her choice to the plethora of opportunities available in Pakistan, emphasizing her pivotal role in the resurgence of Pakistani cinema and her participation in its most successful ventures.

Expressing gratitude towards her fans for their unwavering support, she noted, “After achieving considerable recognition and success in my homeland, I decided not to pursue offers from Bollywood. I find immense satisfaction in my work here in Pakistan, where audiences come to watch my films with their families—an accomplishment I cherish deeply.”

Over the years, numerous talented Pakistani actors, singers, and artists have ventured into Bollywood, including Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Sajal Ali, Javed Sheikh, Saba Qamar, Ali Zafar, and Imran Abbas.

Similarly, Pakistani singers like Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Adnan Sami have contributed their vocals to hit Bollywood songs. Mehwish Hayat, renowned for her successful acting career in television dramas and films, has garnered acclaim for her roles in popular projects such as “Massi Aur Malika”, “Bin Teri”, “Dil Lagi”, and hit films like “Actor In Law”, “Punjab Nahi Jaungi”, and “Chhalawa”, establishing her as the highest-grossing actress in Pakistani cinema.

Furthermore, her contributions to the arts were recognized with numerous awards, including the Lux Style Award for Best TV Actress and the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s prestigious civilian honor, in 2019.
