ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to experience further monsoon rains across various parts of the country this week, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The PMD has forecasted the arrival of monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea, which are expected to penetrate the upper and central regions of Pakistan starting from the night of July 18 and intensify on July 19.
As a result of these weather systems, heavy rain, wind, and thunderstorms are anticipated in several areas. The affected regions include Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and various districts in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan. The weather conditions are expected to persist from the night of July 18 until July 23, with occasional breaks.
Additionally, other areas such as Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbela, and many districts in Punjab and Sindh will also experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms from the night of July 19 to July 21, with intermittent gaps.
Floods and Landslides Feared in Pakistan
The PMD has issued warnings regarding potential impacts of the heavy rainfall. Urban flooding is a concern in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore from July 18 until July 22. Landslides are also a possibility in vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this period.
Farmers have been advised to plan their activities in accordance with the weather forecast, while tourists and travelers are urged to exercise caution and be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances during the wet spell. Loose structures such as electric poles and solar panels may be vulnerable to damage from dust storms and strong winds.
The general public is advised to stay in safe areas during heavy rains and windstorms. All relevant authorities have been alerted to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures throughout the forecasted period.
