ISLAMABAD: Chief Meteorologist Shahid Abbas of the Flood Forecasting Division has announced an upcoming monsoon spell expected to bring widespread rainfall to northern regions of Pakistan, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to PTV News, Shahid Abbas detailed how the monsoon showers will offer significant relief from recent heatwaves and play a crucial role in replenishing water sources, mitigating wildfire risks, and supporting agricultural activities.
Shahid Abbas expressed confidence in the preparedness measures taken to handle the anticipated rainfall. He assured that a comprehensive strategy and optimal arrangements are in place to manage the situation effectively. Authorities are actively identifying areas prone to flooding and other extreme weather events to implement proactive measures aimed at safeguarding public safety.
In response to inquiries about water levels, Shahid Abbas reported that Tarbela Dam is currently 98% full. However, he clarified that there are no flood warnings in effect for any rivers or areas during this monsoon period, indicating that the situation is under control and closely monitored.
The Chief Meteorologist also highlighted that the forthcoming monsoon spell is expected to bring an end to the prevailing oppressive heat, offering much-needed respite and improved weather conditions. Abbas emphasized that the anticipated above-average rainfall will positively impact the environment, agriculture, and water resources, marking a promising development for the country.
