Mexico Border Jail Attack Kills 14 as 24 Prisoners Escape

ISLAMABAD: In an attack on a Mexican state prison in Ciudad Juarez, gunmen who were riding armored vehicles killed a total of 10 guards and 4 prisoners. The Mexican town is opposite the US city of El Paso, which is in the state of Texas.

The prosecutor’s office in Mexico’s Chihuahua state stated that a number of armored vehicles reach the jail and the guards were fired on by gunmen. Apart from those killed, as many as 13 people were hurt while around 24 prisoners escaped.

Later in the day, Mexican troops and local police officers regained control of the jail. Investigations regarding the attack were being undertaken by the personnel of the state prosecutor’s office.

In August, clashes inside the same jail spread to the city of Juarez leaving 11 people dead.

Sometime before Sunday’s attack on the jail, local police officers were attacked who were able to capture four men after a chase. Later on, police officers claimed to have killed two gunmen who had been traveling in an SUV.
