Mexico Party Attack Claims 12 Lives

MEXICO: At least 12 people have been killed and dozen other injured in an attack on a pre-Christmas party in central Mexico, Western media reported on Sunday.

Reports quoting authorities in the state of Guanajuato said the attack took place in the town of Salvatierra, at a ranch, that can be rented out for parties.

The state’s prosecutor’s office in a post on X, formerly Twitter said so far 12 people are reported killed. According to authorities 12 people who were injured in the attack have been taken to hospital.

It was not immediately clear what kinds of arms were used in the tragic incident.

The Tierra Negra foundation said the victims were young people who were attending a religious gathering in connection with Christmas.

Guanajuato is one of the most violent Mexico states because of the large presence of criminal gangs and feuding among drug cartels.

Salvatierra Mayor German Cervantes posted on Facebook strongly condemned the unfortunate act of violence that occurred in the community of San Jose del Carmen.

Similar attacks have been reported in Guanajuato in recent years. According to official figures Guanajuato tops the list of states with the most homicides in Mexico, with 3,029 so far.
