MEXICO: Forty-five bags containing human remains matching seven missing call centre employees were found in a ravine in a suburb of Guadalajara, the office of the state prosecutor in Jalisco claimed.

According to early information obtained by the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office, some body parts “match the physical characteristics of some of the young people missing employees of the call centre.” Between May 20 and May 22, seven call centre workers in western Mexico’s Guadalajara metropolitan area were reported missing.

According to prosecutor Luis Joaqun Méndez Ruz of Jalisco, the bodies were discovered in bags left on a plot of land with an extremely steep slope. Forensic specialists have not yet determined the number of victims and their identities. To identify human remains, the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences is collaborating with the relatives of missing individuals.

With over 100,000 Mexican migrants still missing, the epidemic of disappearances that has plagued the nation is a source of great concern.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that Mexico is a safer country than the United States in March following the kidnapping of four Americans in Mexico, which resulted in the deaths of two of them. In some sections of Mexico, especially in border regions, kidnapping, and human trafficking are commonplace, and Mexico’s overall homicide rate is among the highest globally.
