SAN FRANCISCO: Microsoft has hired Sam Altman, the co-founder of OpenAI, after his surprising sacking from the company OpenAI. Altman played a crucial role in the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technology, contributing to the development of the ChatGPT chatbot.
Despite reported pressure from Microsoft and other major investors to reinstate Altman, OpenAI’s board appointed Emmett Shear, former CEO of Amazon’s streaming platform Twitch, as the new CEO.
Altman’s dismissal on Friday was allegedly due to concerns that he was underestimating the risks associated with the company’s technology and diverting from its stated mission—a claim that his successor denies.
