ISLAMABAD/WASHINGTON: Microsoft Corp said on Wednesday that it will investigate a networking problem that impacted multiple services including Teams and Outlook.

Reports said the platforms were down for thousands of users internationally.

According to Reuters, Microsoft didn’t disclose the number of users affected by the disruption, but data from outage tracking the website Downdetector showed more than 3,900 incidents in India and over 900 in Japan. The outage reports also spiked in Britain, Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Downdetector tracks outages by collating source status reports, including user-submitted errors on its platform.

Microsoft said that they have identified a potential networking issue and were reviewing telemetry to determine the next troubleshooting steps.

Microsoft’s Cloud unit Azure tweeted about the networking problem and said a subset of users were experiencing problems with the platform.

During the outage, users were unable to exchange messages, join calls and use any features of the Teams application. People took to Twitter to share updates about the service disruption, with #MicrosoftTeams trending as the hashtag on social media.

Microsoft Teams is used by more than 280 million people internationally and forms an integral part of daily operations for schools and businesses, which use the service to make calls, schedule meetings, and organise their workflow.
