Adelar Nkisi said that two security personnel, one police official, and two civilians were killed in the recent attack, adding the security personnel had been “chopped to pieces”.

AFP reported that it was unable to independently confirm the death toll, which the spokesperson said could increase further. A police spokesperson could not be reached for comment, and an army spokesperson was not immediately available to comment on the recent attack.

However, a civil society leader said that a clash between the security forces and Mobondo fighters had left at least 4 people dead.

War in western regions of DR Congo first erupted in 2022, in the Kwamouth territory of Mai-Ndombe area, in a dispute over customary tithes between the Yaka and Teke communities.

Reports said that over 300 people have been killed in the conflict, HRW said in a report in March.
