Ministerial Committee Assigned by Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit Holds Meeting with Macron

PARIS: The Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit, headed by Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) held an official meeting on Wednesday with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

According to the SPA, in the presence of French Minister of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, the meeting was attended by members of the Ministerial Committee, including the Foreign Minister of Jordan, Ayman Safadi; the Foreign Minister of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine, Riad Malki; the Foreign Minister of Turkiye, Hakan Fidan; Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi; the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Geoffrey Onyeama; and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

The meeting lauded the Egyptian-Qatari-American mediation efforts, which resulted in reaching a humanitarian ceasefire deal in Gaza, the SPA added. The timing of the ceasefire commencement will be announced within 24 hours, and it will last for four days, with the possibility of an extension, the SPA reported.

The necessity of building on the humanitarian ceasefire towards a complete and sustainable truce as soon as possible was also highlighted during the meeting.  The members of the Ministerial Committee highlighted the significance of the UNSC and world taking effective and immediate measures for a complete truce in the Gaza Strip, the SPA reported. The members also stressed the importance of securing safe paths for the delivery of humanitarian help, water, food, fuel, and power to the Gaza Strip.

According to the SPA, they also called on France to play a balanced role in line with global and humanitarian laws to achieve an urgent and complete truce and to implement all relevant global resolutions.
