Ministerial Committee Assigned by Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit Met with UN Chief: SPA

NEW YORK: Members of the Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit under the chairmanship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah met on Wednesday with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

According to the SPA, the committee members who attended in the meeting are Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Al-Safadi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine, Riad Malki, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, and the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in addition to the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, and the UAE Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Almarar, Representative of the Arab Group in the UNSC.

The SPA reported that during the meeting, they discussed the recent developments in the situation in Gaza and its surroundings and what the humanitarian ceasefire achieved in the release of some prisoners and their return to their families, in addition to discussing the efforts made for an immediate truce, and the significance of the world fulfilling their job towards the commitment to protecting civilian population and ensuring the application of the rules of global law and humanitarian law.

The meeting also tackled the significance of implementing the resolutions issued by the UN about the protection and security of the Palestinians from violations committed by the Israeli occupation troops, and returning to the path of peace by executing global resolutions related to the two-state solution, and enabling Palestinians to acquire their legitimate rights to set up an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the SPA reported.

The members of the Ministerial Committee also reiterated their demand for the significance of the world taking all effective steps to ensure the securing of relief corridors for the delivery of immediate humanitarian help to Gaza, stressing their categorical rejection of all shapes of blatant settlement and forced displacement of Palestinians.
