ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has raised urgent concerns about the severe consequences of India’s ongoing military occupation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

In an interview with a private news channel, Mirwaiz highlighted the escalating crisis in the region, where continued Indian government brutality and military control have significantly impacted the daily lives of Kashmiris.

Mirwaiz’s warning underscores the critical need for immediate action to prevent a worsening humanitarian disaster in IIOJK. He emphasized that decades of military occupation, human rights abuses, and political disenfranchisement have deeply affected the Kashmiri people.

He called for the implementation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions as a crucial step towards addressing these historical injustices and allowing the Kashmiri people to determine their own political future. Mirwaiz argued that the international community has a moral obligation to support the Kashmiri quest for self-determination and pressure India to fulfil its international commitments.

The plight of political detainees in Kashmir, many of whom remain incarcerated without charge or trial, illustrates the ongoing human rights crisis. These detainees face inhumane treatment under draconian laws, which Mirwaiz claims are part of India’s strategy to suppress dissent and control the region.

This pattern of human rights violations and the suppression of political freedom perpetuate a culture of impunity, worsening the suffering of Kashmiri families and communities. Mirwaiz urged the international community to press India to repeal oppressive laws, ensure accountability, and create an environment where the Kashmiri people can exercise their right to self-determination, thereby paving the way for a peaceful and prosperous future.
