MEXICO CITY: Former UFC champion Brandon Moreno announced on Monday his intention to take an extended hiatus from the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) following two consecutive defeats and increasing strain on both his mental and physical well-being.
Making it clear that this break does not signify retirement but rather a temporary pause, Moreno expressed his desire to grant his body much-needed rest and to prioritize spending time with his family.
This decision follows a string of demanding bouts, notably his intense four-fight series against Deiveson Figueiredo, culminating in Moreno’s triumphant win to reclaim his championship title.
Taking to Instagram to share the news, Moreno highlighted the imperative of allowing his mind and body to recuperate, acknowledging the demanding nature of competing at the elite level of MMA.
Despite recent setbacks, Moreno remains hopeful for his future in the sport, drawing inspiration from his past resilience in overcoming adversity to achieve championship status.
While a specific comeback date remains uncertain, Moreno hinted at exploring novel training methodologies and potentially collaborating with different teams to enhance his skill set.
Hailing from Mexico, Brandon Moreno Carrillo has secured the UFC flyweight championship title twice since his debut in 2021, currently holding the second rank in the UFC Flyweight division. Alongside his achievements in the UFC, Moreno has also showcased his talents in matches for the Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA).
