Mobile Phones to Become More Expensive in Pakistan After Budget

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has decided to enhance tax on imported mobile phones in the upcoming budget 2024-25.

According to sources, prices of imported mobile phones are expected to rise as the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has proposed to place Federal Excise Duty (FED).

Additionally, FBR has also advised to increase regulatory duty and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tax on imported luxury mobile phones in the budget of the next fiscal year.

In another development, the federal government has announced a record increase in the budget allocation for education.

The Planning Commission said that the education sector has been allocated a staggering Rs 20.25 billion for the budget 2024-25.

The budget 2024-25 which was earlier scheduled to be presented on June 10 is now expected to be presented on June 12.

The sources said the Pakistan Economic Survey 2023-24 will be unveiled on June 11 after a meeting of the council on June 10.

There are reports that the government is likely to increase the allocation of funds for the development of the industrial sector in the upcoming budget 2024.

According to details, the federal government has proposed an increase of 103pc in the industrial development budget.
