SRINAGAR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has strongly condemned the Narendra Modi-led Indian government, accusing it of actively working to erase the Muslim identity of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). In a statement issued in Srinagar, the APHC spokesperson highlighted the government’s concerted efforts to transform the Muslim-majority region into a Hindu-majority area. The Modi regime, according to the statement, is engaging in a cultural war against Kashmiri Muslims, evident in its actions to change the names of educational institutions, roads, government buildings, and significant places with Muslim names.

One of the latest examples cited by the spokesman is the renaming of Jhelum Stadium at Janbazpora in Baramulla district after former Indian Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat. The APHC emphasized that Kashmir witnessed a surge in violence during General Bipin Rawat’s tenure as the Indian army chief. The renaming spree, including schools, colleges, and roads, is seen as part of the Indian government’s broader agenda to Indianize Kashmir, erasing Muslim culture and imprints from the region.

The APHC spokesperson underlined the assault on the properties, lives, honor, and religious identity of Kashmiri Muslims by Modi’s Hindutva regime. The RSS-backed Indian government is accused of attempting to snatch away the Muslim identity and culture of IIOJK aggressively. The statement expressed concern that the name-changing initiatives are aimed at eradicating Muslim culture and imprints from Kashmir, aligning with the broader goals of the Hindutva ideology.

The spokesperson further stated that the Modi regime’s actions, including the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, were designed to undermine Kashmiris’ identity and dignity. The ultimate goal, as asserted by the APHC, is to revive pre-Islamic Hindu civilization in Kashmir, aligning with the objectives of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Despite these challenges, the APHC maintained that the Kashmiri people remain determined to thwart Modi’s efforts to Hinduize IIOJK, vowing to protect their unique identity and culture at all costs. The spokesperson concluded by asserting that the evil tactics employed by the Modi government would not deter Kashmiris from pursuing their just struggle for justice and autonomy.
