Modi-led Extremist BJP Loses Hold of Southern India Following Karnataka Elections

NEW DELHI:  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led  Extremist BJP on Saturday accepted defeat in a vital regional polls in Karnataka, losing its sole stronghold in southern India, local media reported.

Modi-led Extremist BJP had been in power in the state since 2019 and campaigned hard to hold on to it. As the votes were counted, it became clear that the opposition party, Congress had won an awesome majority in Karnataka, and the state Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai acknowledged the defeat.  The Chief Minister told the reporters that they have not been able to win the elections.

The Congress party won the Karnataka state polls, giving a huge setback to Narendra Modi’s party.

A year before national elections, the BJP had been removed from office in Karnataka, the only southern state controlled by the Hindu nationalist and extremist group. According to Indian media, the results of the Karnataka Assembly elections, held on May 10, show the Congress leading in 122 of the 224 seats and the BJP leading in 71 others. Early winners in the state include Congress leaders DK Shivakumar, Priyank Kharge, Siddaramaiah, Laxman Savadi, and Satish Jarkiholi.

In its first official reaction to the Karnataka Assembly election results, the Congress announced that Modi had “lost” because the BJP declared its election campaign a “referendum” on Modi. The BJP has begun a massive drive in the state, with Narendra Modi visiting to promote the extremist brand of Hindu politics.

 ‘Man behind Hijab ban loses.’

Meanwhile, according to a media report, Karnataka Education Minister and leader of BJP, Nagesh, who imposed the Hijab ban in the educational institutes of the state and supported an economic boycott of Muslims in Karnataka, has lost the elections from the constituency of Tiptur. Nagesh was one of several senior Hindutva party leaders that were defeated in the elections.
