ISLAMABAD: Following the subpar performance of the Pakistan cricket team in the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former test captain Mohammad Hafeez as the Director of the Pakistan Men’s cricket team succeeding Mickey Arthur. This change in leadership comes on the heels of Captain Babar Azam’s resignation from the all-format captaincy.

Mohammad Hafeez, a seasoned cricketer with 55 Tests, 218 ODIs, and 119 T20Is under his belt, has not only showcased his prowess as an all-rounder but also served on the PCB Cricket Technical Committee. With 12,780 runs and 253 wickets in international cricket, Hafeez brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

The decision to reassign Mickey Arthur, the outgoing Director of Cricket, to a coaching role at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is part of a broader restructuring effort in the aftermath of the World Cup disappointment. The entire coaching staff’s portfolios have been reshuffled, and they will continue their roles at the NCA.

The PCB statement highlighted that these changes are aimed at rejuvenating the team’s strategy and performance. “All coaches will continue to work in the National Cricket Academy, while the PCB will announce the new coaching staff in due course for the upcoming series in Australia and New Zealand,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, former fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been appointed as the Chief Selector, filling the void left by Inzamam-ul-Haq’s resignation due to allegations of conflict of interest. Sohail Tanveer has been named the head of the junior selection team.
